Davies on ‘Unreal’ Form in Spain

Ducati rider made it four consecutive WorldSBK victories with his superb performances at Jerez

The weekend’s Gaerne Spanish Round was a highly productive one for Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) as a dominant win in Race 1 was followed up with an incredible victory by six seconds in Sunday’s race.

The Welshman’s form at the #JerezWorldSBK round came on the back of another double victory in France and although his 2016 title aspirations officially ended over the weekend in Spain he is undoubtedly the championship’s current form rider.

“It’s unreal,” stated Davies after his Race 2 triumph. “That is four wins on the bounce and I think that is easily a new record for me. In the race itself I got an absolutely blinding start. It’s always a nice feeling when it feels like the other riders are going backwards and you are going forwards.”

He continued, “At Turn 1 I managed to slot it pretty much up on the inside of everyone except for Tom and I was right there on the back of him. It was easily the best start I’ve made all year and the race played out from there. I noticed that Tom was trying to save his tyres and not spin it up too hard so I took that as an opportunity as I knew I didn’t need to save my tyres too much and I could run the pace for the race. So I slipped it by him and made my race from there.”

Davies also stated: “Since the summer break we have been flying and this is the result. Five out of six wins now, so hats off to the crew because it is thanks to them that we are now in this position, they never stopped working or rested on their laurels. They keep chipping away in Bologna so thanks to them, thanks to Aruba and thank you to Ducati.”
